Freshmen return early from their Christmas vacation to start the Spring semester off with this challenging but highly-engaging experience.
This course will immerse students in the winter environment and provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills necessary for safely enjoying winter in the mountains. It is the second part of the freshman outdoor leadership program that is required for graduation. The winter course specifically prepares students to plan and lead winter outdoor adventures and to participate in winter field science labs during their sophomore year.
Participants learn various winter skills and sports, such as cross-country (Nordic) skiing, downhill skiing, and basic winter camping skills. This is also one of the opportunities for student to begin using some of the leadership training they have been learning throughout the prior semester.
